Paignton Saints v Babbacombe Corinthians

2.30pm  31 March 2018

South Devon League, Division One
Paignton Saints 7 Babbacombe Corinthians 0 (att 18)

With the wet weather having already ruled out my planned Good Friday game I played safe for the first of two matches on Saturday.

I had hoped Paignton-based Roselands might beat the rain for their Premier Division fixture, but once that was called off I diverted to nearby Paignton Saints, and their 3G pitch at Paignton Community College.

The ground is typical of its type, with a well-worn pitch surrounded by a high fence. There's a pair of dugouts on the far side, and anyone who chooses to watch from outside the 'cage' has the option of a raised covered area with some bench seating.

The small crowd was boosted by fellow groundhoppers seeking the sanctuary of a guaranteed game on a wet day, and we watched the home side stroll to victory thanks to a dominant second half display.

Saints had been the better side in the first half, but were ahead by just a single goal at half time. They doubled their lead soon after the restart, and Babbacombe Corinthians had no answer as Saints racked up the goals for an easy win.
