Hartshead v Hall Green United

6.30pm  5 April 2017

West Yorkshire League, Division One
Hartshead 0 Hall Green United 3 (att 65)

The top two in the West Yorkshire League's second tier went head to head at Hartshead, and it was the visitors who claimed all three points to put themselves firmly on course for the title.

The win stretched their lead at the top to five points with two games in hand, and on the evidence of this 90 minutes they look the better side.

Two first half goals, the opener a penalty, put Hall Green in control. A third goal about ten minutes from the end rubbed salt into Hartshead wounds.

The home side's frustration threatened to get the better of them in a hard-fought game, and the referee did well on a tricky evening, especially without the benefit of neutral assistants to run the lines.

Hartshead's pitch can be awkward to find if you're not prepared. The address is the Princess Mary Athletics Track, but that's where the players change before a lengthy walk to a pitch that's well hidden behind the athletics arena.

They used to play on another pitch at the same address, next to the swimming baths. but the new venue is far enough away for me, and most groundhoppers, to consider it worth a return visit. Facilities are basic at the moment, with just one side and one end of the pitch railed off.
