Richmond Raith Rovers v Rainhill Town

7.30pm  24 August 2016

West Cheshire League, Division One
Richmond Raith Rovers 1 Rainhill Town 2 (att 15)

I didn't have time to get to an early kick off, so a 7.30 start at Richmond Raith Rovers' new home suited me well.

The club are a bit of gift to groundhoppers, or maybe a slight irritation depending on your point of view, as they seem to find a new home every season. This time they're based at the St John Bosco Arts College, in Liverpool's Croxteth, where a new artificial pitch has been installed.

The ground is unremarkable, a typical enclosed and floodlit pitch behind the school buildings. There's a barriered area for spectators running most of the length of one side.

It was a lively game between two sides who appear, on this evidence at least, to have a bit of a rivalry.

Visitors Rainhill just about edged it, but what had been a two-goal advantage, thanks to a strike in each half, looked vulnerable towards the end. A late red card saw them lose a player and Richmond Raith Rovers got a goal back, but home side couldn't quite find an equaliser.
