Llanymynech v Llanrhaeadr-ym-Mochnant reserves

1pm  17 October 2015

Montgomeryshire Amateur League, Division One
Llanymynech 2 Llanrhaeadr-ym-Mochnant reserves 0 (att 20)

With Wales's rugby players getting underway in the World Cup at 4pm, Llanymynech and Llanrhaeadr brought forward the start of their game so they could watch the action. It also allowed me to squeeze in an extra game, and ground, on a busy afternoon.

I assume Llanymynech's footballers would be supporting Wales, but the border between Wales and England actually runs through the middle of the village. The football pitch, in Station Road, is actually in England.

It's been a while since I've watched a Montgomeryshire Amateur League game, as most recent visits to clubs in this part of the world have been for local cup matches on Sundays.

Unsure of what to expect, it turned out to be an enjoyable game. The home side were deserved winners, thanks to a goal in each half. The clincher, 20 minutes into the second half, was an unfortunate, for Llanrhaeadr, own goal.

The King George V Playing Field is a decent facility, next to the village hall in which players get changed. As well as football pitch there's tennis courts, a bowling green and children's play areas. The ground is enclosed by trees, in their autumnal colours, making it a very pleasant football ground to visit.
