Hanney United v Marcham

10.30am  19 September 2015

North Berkshire League, Division Two
Hanney United 4 Marcham 2 (att 171)

An unusually early kick off and a larger than normal crowd reveal that this game was the first of the day's North Berkshire League "groundhop" games, followed by fixtures at Grove United and East Hendred.

Having been to East Hendred before, I settled for just the one hop game, and very good it was too. The sides traded goals in an entertaining first half, before Hanney took control of the points after the break.

I'd had a foggy drive south from Manchester, and it was still misty when the action got underway on the village sports ground at East Hanney. The club are based at the adjacent Hanney War Memorial Hall, and play on a pitch that was roped off for the occasion.

In the first half Marcham twice led, but both times Hanney struck back so it was 2-2 by half time. Hanney had been a little fortunate to be level, but they upped their game in the second half and deserved their win.
