Ketton v Netherton United

1045am  1 August 2015

Peterborough & District League, Premier Division
Ketton 2 Netherton United 2 (att 284)

An early start to the season for clubs participating in this years Peterborough/United Counties League "hop", and an early start to the day for Ketton and Netherton to kick off the first of the day's four staggered games.

Ketton won promotion to the Peterborough League's top division last season, and a fixture against a Netherton side who have their sights set on promotion to the United Counties League was a tough opener.

They did well, twice coming from behind to get a well-earned point in front of an above-average crowd, swelled by groundhoppers like me. Both teams scored once in each half, with Ketton's late second equaliser coming from a penalty.

Like all clubs staging "hop" games, Ketton were well organised to cope with the influx of visitors. The Pit Lane ground was a pleasant surprise, the football facility forming part of a large sports complex with a roped off pitch, dugouts, and plenty of steep grass banking to give a decent view.
