Holmbridge v Holmfirth Town

6.15pm  7 May 2015

Huddersfield & District League, Division One
Holmbridge 3 Holmfirth Town 3 (att 30)

The ideal at this stage in the season is to find a game with a league title, promotion or relegation at stake, but a derby between local rivals can be just as good.

This was a terrific game, with visitors Holmfirth coming from 3-0 down to snatch a point deep into stoppage time.

A draw looked unlikely when Holmbridge netted a penalty mid-way through the second half, adding to the two goals they scored in the first period. Holmfirth pulled a first goal back after 83 minutes, scored a second two minutes later, and bundled home their third, from a corner, nine minutes into stoppage time.

A draw was probably a fair outcome, and must have felt like a victory for Holmfirth, who will be stepping up to the West Riding County Amateur League for next season.

Holmbridge is a village a mile or two out of Holmfirth, and the football club play on a tightly enclosed pitch on the local recreation ground. Players change elsewhere and walk down the road to get to the pitch, which is bordered by the river on one side and the A6024 Woodhead Road on the other.
