Walkington v North Ferriby United reserves

6pm  2 April 2015

East Riding County League, HE Dean Cup First Round
Walkington 3 North Ferriby United reserves 0 (att 40)

For a Conference North side, who won the FA Trophy at Wembley last weekend, it's odd that North Ferriby's second team plays in the rather humble East Riding County League. However, on the evidence of this game they don't have many players knocking on the door of the first team.

Perhaps they'd spent the last few days celebrating too hard, but North Ferriby were woeful as they succumbed to a comfortable defeat at Walkington. Not that the outcome of this cup tie was an upset, with Walkington second in the league's tip tier, and the visitors one place lower.

The home side took an early lead, then doubled their advantage just before half time. The third goal, a great header, came soon after the start of the second half. Walkington should have scored more, and North Ferriby's best player was their busy keeper.

I'd never watched an East Riding County League game before, but based on this match the top sides are a decent standard. It'd be good to see Walkington step up to the Humber Premier League, and they certainly appear to have the facilities.

They play art Broadgates Playing Field, a pitch, railed on three sides, on the edge of a modern housing estate between Walkington and Beverley. A sign above the changing room door states that it's the home of Mill Lane United FC, a Sunday side who briefly played Humber Premier League football themselves a few years back.
