Old Colwyn v Rhos United

6.15pm  1 April 2015

Vale of Clwyd & Conwy League, Premier Division
Old Colwyn 3 Rhos United 1 (att 9)

A wet and windy night and not ideal conditions for playing football, or for watching it, but Old Colwyn and Rhos United at least provided a a decent contest in their local derby.

Old Colwyn had the wind and rain behind them in the first half, and made good use of the conditions as they swept into a 3-0 lead. Their opening goal may have been a wind-assisted fluke, but was notable for having been struck from well inside their own half.

Rhos pulled one back in early in the second half, but rather than being a springboard for their comeback they stalled somewhat after that. Old Colwyn had a penalty saved, but as the game moved towards its conclusion it was always going to be a home win.

Old Colwyn's Glan-y-Don ground is just a pitch, close to the local council offices and North Wales Police headquarters. It's a pleasant tree-lined venue, but you'd need better weather than I had to appreciate it fully.
