Ormiston v Hawick Royal Albert

3pm  28 February 2015

East of Scotland League, Division One
Ormiston 2 Hawick Royal Albert 0 (att 31)

I'd been tempted north by news that Ormiston hoped to be playing on their new ground as early as next season, making a visit to their current Recreation Park a priority.

The new venue is being built next to their existing home, and although work was continuing during the game an awful lot still needs to be done if it's to be up and running by August.

Recreation Park is a basic but pleasant venue. It's semi-enclosed and forms part of a larger public park. The pitched is railed off, there's a part of dugouts, and a steep grass bank on one side giving a good view of the action.

A small section of covered standing has had to be removed to allow machinery to get access to the building site that will become the new ground, so now just the roof supports remain sticking out of a few steps of terracing.

The game wasn't the best, but Ormiston deserved their win, secured thanks to two second half goals. Ormiston, and the game, got better as the afternoon went on, although at the same time the weather got progressively worse.

I enjoyed my visit to this friendly club (having correctly identified me a groundhopper I was invited in for a welcome warming pie and Bovril at half time), and I'll look forward to returning to the new ground.
