FC Nomads of Connah's Quay v Hawarden Rangers

6.15pm  19 August 2014

Welsh National League (Wrexham Area), Premier Division
FC Nomads of Connah's Quay 0 Hawarden Rangers 0 (att 113)

Back to groundhopping after one of my occasional weekends spent not watching football, and to a game that was far better than a nil nil scoreline might suggest.

There was no shortage of chances, with the home side particularly wasteful in front of goal early in match, and both teams played good football. It'd be no surprise if these two clubs are close to the top of the table by next spring.

FC Nomads were formed a few years ago by Connah's Quay Nomads fans who were concerned at their club's future. The senior club remains, but FC Nomads have made great strides and another promotion last season means they're now in the third tier of Welsh football.

A lot of work has gone into the the ground at Wepre Park to make it suitable for this level, but it remains just a railed-off pitch in a public park, albeit one with dugouts, and grass banking to help spectators get a decent view.

More work will be needed of the club earns another promotion, but on this evidence the club has good support and a decent infrastructure, which stretched to an excellent match programme, a rarity in this league.
