Digmoor v Ashtonians

6.30pm  20 August 2014

Lancashire Amateur League, Division Two
Digmoor 5 Ashtonians 3 (att 9)

Digmoor kicked off their league season with a 10-0 win on Saturday, and added five more goals tonight although Ashtonians proved a tougher obstacle.

In a very lively first half Digmoor took an early lead, but Ashtonians soon equalised, only for the home side to go back in front before half time.

The temperature dipped as the second half got underway, and for a while the entertainment did as well. The lull proved just temporary though, as the visitors equalised, thanks to penalty, and then took a surprise lead.

Digmoor were stung back into action, and stepped up several gears to score three times for a deserved win. Given this was the third tier of the Lancashire Amateur League the football was a decent standard.

The last time I saw Digmoor play a home match they were based at Glenburn Sports College in Skelmersdale, but they've now moved to the town's Blaguegate Playing Fields. It's not an inspiring venue, just a large sports field with eight  pitches, next to the JMO Sports Park. Digmoor do at least play on the pitch closest to the changing rooms.
