Coates Athletic v Oakham United

2pm  3 August 2014

Peterborough & District League, Premier Division
Coates Athletic 2 Oakham United 5 (att 401)

A new era for Coates Athletic dawned with a large crowd, thanks to the hop, and a heavy defeat.

During the summer Coates merged with near neighbours Whittlesey United. The club will be moving to a new ground, but as it's not yet ready they're currently playing on the pitch vacated by Whittlesey. Like most in this league it's just roped off, but there's a pair of permanent dugouts, and on a sunny Sunday it was a pleasant spot.

Oakham were in no mood to appreciate the surroundings though, as they were comfortable winners of an enjoyable game. They scored early, and although Coates were soon level Oakham had scored twice more before half time.

The entertainment continued in the second half, and on this showing Oakham are likely to have good season ahead of them.
