Lincoln City U18 v Hull City U18

11am  1 March 2014

Football League Youth Alliance, North East Conference
Lincoln City U18 0 Hull City U18 3 (att 44)

Weeks of bad weather have slowed my progress in trying to complete visits to all the country's professional academy venues, but with improved conditions I had a choice of youth team matches this morning.

Lincoln City have led a nomadic existence at this level, in recent years they've borrowed local non League grounds, but this season they're using the impressive facilities at Lincoln Christ's Hospital School, and I thought it worth "ticking" the ground in case they're soon on the move again.

It was a busy place, as well as my game the school was staging a number of girls' matches, at various ages, against teams from Norwich (well, they were all wearing Norwich City kits). It meant parking spaces were at a premium, but having found somewhere to leave the car I just about had time to walk across the muddy playing field to City's academy pitch.

It's just an open pitch, with coaching staff and subs on one touchline and spectators opposite. Hull were much the better side, perhaps not a surprise as their first team are in the Premier League while Lincoln's are in the Conference.

But the visitors were poor in front of goal, and the first half ended goalless. Lincoln's chances of getting something from the game effectively ended when they lost a player to a red card early in the second half. With a man advantage, Hull took control, scoring three times for a comfortable win.
