Endeavour v Grangetown Boys Club

6.15pm  8 April 2013

Teesside League, Division One
Endeavour 3 Grangetown Boys Club 1 (att 37)

My first Teesside League game for five years, but while many of the grounds hold little appeal - too many roped off pitches in Middlesbrough - this was a good enough game to tempt me back more often.

Endeavour, who before this season were known as Dormans, are involved in a close battle at the top of the league, and were desperate to claim maximum points against mid table Grangetown.

They started well, and took an early lead, but failed to take any of the many chances they created to increase their lead, and were caught out when Grangetown equalised before half time.

The second half followed a similar pattern, with the home side having most of the possession, creating chances which they failed to take, while the visitors were always dangerous on the break. Grangetown's keeper made some fine saves before Endeavour finally regained the lead with 10 minutes to go. A third goal followed soon after to ease any nerves.

Endeavour's home venue is a roped off pitch in Middlesbrough. Prissick Base, on Marton Road, is basically a large sports field. The pitch runs parallel to the main road, and is a long walk from the changing rooms.
