Beeston St Anthony's v Carlton Athletic

14 May 2012
West Yorkshire League, Premier Division
Beeston St Anthony's 8 Carlton Athletic 0 (att 114)

Another game with the home side needing a win to close in on a league title, and like Saturday's game at Westland they did so with ease. Beeston were helped by an early red card for the Carlton keeper, dismissed for deliberately handling the ball out the area.

His handball may have denied Beeston a scoring opportunity, but they created plenty more, and scored four in each half. A win for title rivals Bardsey means Beeston still need a point from their final game, at Leeds City on Wednesday, to be champions.

Beeston's ground is relatively new, and with a successful side and a good crowd there's a buzz about the club that I don't recall when visiting their old ground a few years ago.

There's no cover for spectators, but the ground is fully enclosed with hard standing along one side and grass banking opposite. A tea bar was up and running ahead of the game and programmes were on sale.

  1. Nice to see some more coverage of the West Yorks League - which has some decent quality games in my experience. Due to work commitments I've missed most of the midweek run-in this season, but am hoping to get down to Leeds City for the last game tomorrow.
