Ince v Ince Central

11 April 2012
Wigan & District Amateur League, Premier Division
Ince 5 Ince Central 0 (att 39)

The Ince derby proved to be a rather one-sided affair at the William Foster's Playing Fields, Ince-in-Makerfield.

The result was a surprise, at least to me, as the visitors are higher in the league, but in the first half they were very poor as the hosts romped to a commanding 4-0 lead. Any chance Central had of getting back into the game ended when they failed to convert a penalty, brilliantly saved, early in the second half. A fifth goal for the home side settled matters.

The venue, not surprisingly, is just a park pitch, and I didn't even see any changing rooms nearby. One curiosity was that despite the game starting on time, at 6.15pm, the referee played just a 40 minute first half. The visibility was still good as the match approached its end, and so the second half was extended to 50 minutes, giving us a full 90 minute game, of two unequal halves.
