Howe Bridge Mills v Bury Grammar School OB

3 April 2012
Lancashire Amateur League, Premier Division
Howe Bridge Mills 3 Bury GSOB 1 (att 20)

A chilly evening stood by the side of an exposed and windswept pitch at the Howe Bridge Sports Centre in Atherton. Fortunately the two sides produced a reasonably entertaining game, despite the conditions.

The result was a blow to the visitors title hopes. They took an early lead, wind assisted, but within minutes Howe Bridge Mills were level, and not long after the home side went ahead.

Bury GSOB created most of the second half's chances, and would have deserved to draw level. But they failed to score and the home side sealed the win with a terrific long range strike in the final minute, again with the help of the very strong wind.

Having previously played on a different pitch elsewhere in the sports centre, Howe Bridge Mills now use a newly-developed area which is home to around eight pitches. Both touchlines were roped off, to comply with league rules, but no other facilities and no shelter from the wind.
