Easthouses Lily MW v Duns

4 September 2011
East of Scotland League, Alex Jack Cup First Round
Easthouses Lily Miners Welfare 3 Duns 1 aet (att 72)

A game usefully (for me) switched to Sunday to avoid a clash with Scotland's match at Hampden on Saturday.

I had low expectations of Easthouses ground, but on a sunny, and surprisingly warm, afternoon it was a pleasant place to watch football. Facilities are limited, the pitch is railed off and enclosed, but there's no cover. A steep grass bank runs the length of one touchline, providing a good view of the Pentland Hills in the distance.

In truth the game wasn't great, the two sides cancelling eachother out for most of the opening 90 minutes. Easthouses went ahead, thanks to a deflected free kick, in the first half, but Duns deserved their second half equaliser.

The home side had a player sent of a few minutes from the end of normal time, but it didn't hamper them. Duns had been slightly the better of the two in 90 minutes, but Easthouses looked much stronger in extra time, scoring twice, albeit the second after Duns had also lost a player to a red card.
