Alresford Town v GE Hamble

29 August 2011 (3pm)
Wessex League, Premier Division
Alresford Town 2 GE Hamble 5 (att 54)

A few years ago I drove all the way from my Salford home to New Alresford, near Winchester, for a midweek match in December, only for the game to be postponed around an hour before kick off, leaving me with no option but to drive all the way home again.

No chance of a frozen pitch causing problems this time though. In fact, the pitch looked immaculate and is obviously well looked after. The club have made the most of what in fact are fairly limited facilities. The ground is dominated by a two tier clubhouse, which contains covered seated and standing areas for spectators, both ends are open and the far side is out of bound to spectators ... but not for the handful who chose to watch for free from the far side of the temporary fencing.

The game was good, with GE Hamble (playing under yet another new name, they were Hamble ASSC last season, and Folland Sports when I visited them in the 1980s) looking very impressive and well worth their win.
